A Walk around Denver

A family hike in the Mountains of Utah

Back in September, yes i have a lot of back-blogging to catch up on..., I went with skyler and my lovely family on a lovely hike into the mountains of utah. We explored the flowering Albion Basin, running into a large group of geologists, trying to spot animals, enjoying snacks, and then out running a thunderstorm.

I love my family.

This year we met the other Briggs at the middle point {MOAB} for Thanksgiving.

I was so excited to get up early and go adventuring in the morning light. I was ruthless. If you weren't out of bed in time, you were left, but it was done so lovingly. :)

I ADORED the morning light. It washed the foreign landscape in liquid copper, and I felt myself basking in it. Hoping to soak up some of that wonder to treasure.

It only lasted maybe an hour, but it was a beautiful hour, worth losing sleep for.

A Walk Along the Willamette.

Last week we had a fun last-minute surprise adventure to Portland, Oregon. Sky had to go there for work, and because Southwest's Companion pass is so awesome, I got to tag along. And it was Amazing

First item on my exploration "to do" list: 1. Walk along the Willamette River.

{proceeded by a little shopping, of course}

It was a beautiful sunny golden afternoon with a slight breeze that sent large colored leaves fluttering through the air, spiraling down to a soft landing in the river. I breathed deep the humid air, that added just the right amount of curl to my air-dryer hair, and I felt happy.

One of my best friends from College is from Portland, and now I understand why she loves it there so much.

Korczak Kiolkowski "Story Teller in Stone"

is a Man and an Artist to be admired.

As uninspired as I was by Mount Rushmore, I found something that spoke to me at Crazy Horse Memorial.

I learned the story of an artist whose vision was greater than himself. His dream was so grand, it carries on into generations. He, alone and undaunted, shaped a mountain, piece by piece.

I thought a lot about the unearthly amount of dedication he had. One is awestruck considering what he accomplished in his lifetime, and how others now embrace his dreams as their own.

I wondered if I am capable of that kind of grand dreaming and colossal dedication.

Korczak often quoted this:

When the legends die,

the dreams end;

and when the dreams end,

there is no more greatness.

I have one dream that will not end. It is the dream passed to me by parents, and the dream I hope to pass to my children.

He wrote a letter to his children before he passed away. I love so much of what he says, for there is truth in it.

To my children:

Life at its very best is a fleeting thing. It can be likened to a wisp of a cloud that comes up out of the horizon—from where we know not—and as it draws near, it becomes full of embodiment, so much so that it can be evil enough to cloud the sun and make darkness—or, by the same token, it can be beautiful and give shade....

You can, with your own lives, either darken the sun and make things unhappy after you—or you can create a lovely haven of shade for your family, your friends, and for those who will follow you.

For 39 years of my life I sought for something wherein I wished to dedicate my life. South Dakota : Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore is a once in a lifetime opportunity- meaning I think only need to see it once.

As Skyler so lovingly said "it's like disneyland with no rides".

Although it was an interesting adventure, I didn't know about the controversy associated with it {they don't teach you about that in elementary school} and I walked away from it not quite knowing how I felt about the monument or the artist.

I think mostly I felt bad for Roosevelt, he got the short end of the stick on placement. Oh and poor Lincoln will never have an ear.

Sunday Stroll

It's autumn, no arguing with that, no matter how hard skyler might try.

There's a new chill in the air and the leaves are starting to dress themselves in yellows, oranges, and reds. I love the chill i wake up to in the morning, pulling my blankets into a a cuddle.

Today we took a long walk in the countryside, the three of us.

The chilly wind blew in my hair and a dampness from the impending storms, or perhaps the remnants from yesterday's rain, hung in the air. It was a feeling of freshness, that made me feel light.

We talked of life.

We laughed.

We chased birds.

and we befriended a horse of chestnut.

I thought a lot about the beautiful things I learned at church today.

{faith and hope}

and I felt God in those moments.

Loveland is beautiful. Love is beautiful. Life is Beautiful.

I loved the "moments" captured in these images. It was so fun to photograph the kids as they played and I think my most favorite moment was when the 2 boys gathered around their father. Their normal energy quieted and they basked in his attention.

Custer State Park : II

Golden light on the Prairie can't be beat. I wanted to pull over and run and frolic in the fields letting go of all manners and propriety.

I took Skyler on a "death march". Usually Sky's in charge or choosing out hikes, but this time I decided were we'd go explore. Only I misread the map and 1 mile turned into 3, at dusk, with no water, and surrounded by buffalo. It certainly was an adventure.

Over Labor day we headed out to South Dakota and explored this new area.

We spent an entire day in Custer State Park. It's beautiful and it has some beautiful wild life. Hopefully sky will post some of his animal images on his Blog

{Prairie Dogs are the cutest things Ever!}

It was beautiful. I loved driving with the windows down and smelling the fields of Grass. The sun was shining and we enjoyed the benefits of the cold air coming through from a neighboring storm. There's a beautiful mix of prairie, forest and lakes. And my soul felt lifted and refreshed playing in it.

Gunvor was that person.

She was a perfect mix of joy + laughter, depth + compassion, reverence + kindness, love and wisdom.

Gunvor lived more than the length of life, she lived the greatest width of life.

She created a divine legacy.

How lucky my family and I are to have had her in our life. She's blessed so many, us included.

September- Month of Adventuring

{Yes, Skyler's a bit taller than me...}

September, has been a month of extreme adventuring and working. We've been running and gunning; and working hard and playing hard. And we're only half way through.

Can I just emphasis how much I love going on Adventures with Skyler? He's the best adventuring buddy in the world! We've been to South Dakota {very pretty}, back to Utah, and then off to Monterey and San Francisco in California. Plus my mom came and visited me here in Loveland for a few days {and if you know my mom you know how totally AWESOME she is!}.

So that's the explanation for the short absence from blogging, we've been living life. But don't worry, I have tons of images I am excited to post, and "Pre-blogging" is on my To Do List, so the blog won't feel so lonely.

I'm back now for a little bit before I run off again to shoot weddings and such,

and I loved that it felt like home when I got back to Loveland.

Chelsey and Rhett are beautiful, inside and out, and I am so happy for them!

I knew Chesley and her family growing up and I love them all. I remember Chelsey as a teeny tiny girl with white blonde hair running around at swim meets, and now she has grown into such a beautiful woman. I loved seeing Jeannette, her Mom and my good friend, tear-up as Chelsey got dressed for the session. There is so much love in the England Family and I was so grateful that I could spend the evening with them.

So this is the first of two post from this amazingly wonderful Engagement session I photographed in Utah 2 weeks ago. We did a mammoth session and had lots of fun doing it. Enjoy these beauties, and the part 2 will follow "toute suite"!

Greeted with Thunderstorms

When we arrived in Loveland about a month ago, we were greeted with fiercely beautiful Thunderstorms.

The lightening was unlike anything I had ever seen before. With out the mountains, you could see the storm for miles and miles. The night sky was flashing steel blue every few seconds and the cracking thunder rumbled for hours. I was both in awe and in fear of it.

{and that's why these pictures are taken through my dirty bedroom window}

I felt so small and vulnerable, but yet I was captivated by the violent beauty.

I had to take charlie dog outside, and I truly was the only person out there {maybe everyone else knew better}. I couldn't help but look up and see the clouds flash right above my head. There was an electricity that filled the air, mixed with the pouring rain, and I could feel it all around me.

Magical is not quiet the right word to explain it, perhaps a better fit would be Divine.

It was a moment that feeds a hunger in your soul; a moment with a touch of divinity.

A walk down Country Road 18 with my Charlie Dog

This morning Charlie and I went on a photo Adventure. We wandered down Country Road 18. Now I love Country Road 18. I loved meandering through the beautiful farmlands, with the tall grass and the loud hum of crickets accented with bird songs.

We found an awesome lake that reflected the sky so wonderfully. Of course Charlie couldn't resist a dip and the mini waves from his joyful frolicking rippled out across the whole lake.

Back in Holliday, our neighbor's cat was very very friendly. She'd peek over the balcony at me and if I said hi she'd come down and want to be pet. One time she even tried to go inside with me...I don't know how Charlie would have felt about that.
