My Grandma Miller

Over the weekend my beautiful and wonderful Grandma Miller passed away.

When my mom first called to tell me she only had a few days left, my first thought was to jump in the car and run to her side. To hold her hand and whisper to her the things in my heart. To tell her how wonderful she is, how much I love her, and thank her for the beautiful things that she planted in my heart since I was young.  But something told me that was okay and that she already knew.

My Sweet Grandma was a bit of a spitfire. She was full of spunk and spoke her mind.

She taught me how to play cards, to knit, and crochet, how to sit in the backyard and appreciate the beauty all around me, and she taught me the importance of family.

My grandma's house was always filled with visitors on Sundays and Everyone was always welcome.  I treasure the memories I have running around their beautiful backyard playing with cousins and eating Meyer's fried chicken. Grandma and Grandpa could always be found out on the deck sitting in their chairs watching the sunlight filter through the leaves and listening to the birds splashing in the bird bath.   It brings to mind the words from the song "There is Beauty all Around"

"There is beauty all around
When there's love at home,

There is Joy in every sound
When there's love at home.

Peace and plenty here abide,
Smiling sweet on every side.

Time doth sweetly, softly glide,
When there's love at home. "

I was so happy that Grandma could come to our wedding. She adored Skyler from day one and was always so happy to see him.

As Grandma got older and needed help getting around, I was the one that got to go pick her up to come to family dinners and holidays. I am so grateful for those opportunities, because I got to spend time with just grandma and me, and I grew to love her even more.

Back in my college days, my Mom brought my Grandma down to the studio to take some photographs. My good friend Michael helped take some group shots of my Grandma, My Mom, and Me, and I am so glad that I have them.

I am so grateful and count my self truly blessed to have such wonderful, strong, faithful women in my family. Who bless me with their wisdom and insight. Who have taught and continue to teach me to love others and serve them selflessly, and that it is through our actions towards others that we are true disciples of Christ.

They've also taught me life is meant to be happy and filled with laughter; and we don't have to be serious all the time.

Grandma Miller, Grandma Amy, Barb, Barbie,  orby whatever name you know her, She is definitely someone worth celebrating.

My life has been touched by hers, as I know many have been.

Although it's sad for those of us left behind, I can only image the happy reunion she's had with her loving sweetheart, Grandpa Leon.  And how happy she is to be home.

So to say goodbye, in Grandma Miller Fashion,

Adios my sweet Grandma,

I will love you forever.
